Butt Hook for Old Rifle

Post by Misny »

I am a new, low level smallbore prone shooter. I have an old Savage-Anshutz 64 rifle. Are there any butt hooks that would fit my rifle? Would this be a worthwhile investment or should I just stick with what I have until I have advanced in skill?

You shouldn't have much of a need for a hook in prone. If you do want one, check with ESP (Earnest Shooting Products).

Thanks for the response WarWagon. I move around a lot to load each round. I thought the hook would help me regain my position. I'll probably just stick with what I have and work on the fundamentals.

When you add the hook, it will increase the length, unless you modify the stock. I would say it is worth a try depending on your funds. You may want to pick up another stock to modify. Hopefully someone could loan you a complete rifle with a buttplate and you could evaluate your needs over a week or two. I personally find it takes weeks to find out if a change is prudent. Good luck. Ter
