Hi all,

I understand that there is a certain minimum velocity required for the .22 olympic rapid fire event. (Or is it just enough to cycle the weapon?) Are there such for the free pistol too? Also, can hollow pointed ammo be used in this event?

The reason why I am asking is that I was able to use a locally manufactured .22 LR that not only was hollow pointed (that produced significantly bigger and rounder holes), but also the velocity was very slow such that the recoil was much, much less. I was told that it could not cycle the Hammerli 280. I made groups with it the same way with the Eleys I earlier used.

Hollowpoint ammunition doesn't chamber in my TOZ or Steyr.

I use an old and reliable Hammerli 107 the chamber of which is a bit tighter than the 150. In any case, is it within the rules with regards to it being hollow pointed and of a slower velocity?

50m ammunition must be .22LongRifle with a lead projectile 8.4.6 - projectile shape is not specified.

Hollowpoint with lower velocity than target .22LR sounds unusual, but...
as does the bigger holes...

Thanks for the reference. More so because of the cost, another good point is the softer and more comfortable recoil. The compensator I made was only effective in reducing the upward motion by about 30%. But when I used the ammo yesterday, the upward motion was significantly lesser and the rearward kick was very comfortable.

Per 8.16.0, compensators are not permitted on 25 meter pistols:-(

Gov't Model: I just checked out the rules and found out that my set up for the Free Pistol is ok. whew! In fact, I did see in one of the websites a compensator for the Morini that is being advertised as being able to improve accuracy.

For Free Pistol:

May only be loaded with one (1) cartridge.

Hand covers will be permitted, providing they do not cover the wrist.


For Rimfire and Centerfire Pistols :

Compensators, muzzle brakes, perforated barrels or any device(s) functioning in a similar manner are not allowed.

For a Free Pistol, The minimum velocity would be such, that with the rear sight raised to it's maximum height, the bullet would reach the target at 50M., with the sights somewhere on the paper.

Yup, pretty much the way I did when I shot my air pistol in that distance. It does hit the paper consistently :-P
