I think that the 162E has the fixed air cylinder (first model) the 162EI has the interchangable (hence the I) air cylinders.

And, I think that the 162E takes the expensive battery where the 162EI uses 2x AAA batteries.

Thats if my memory is still good, I only owned a Morini for a short time as I didn't like it!

j-team is right about the air cylinders. But in my experience, there is no connection between the EI and the type of battery. I think that in Germany the new model (2 x 1.5V) was marketed as 162EA, but I've seen all type of combinations. My 162EI takes the old 15V. As the cylinder adapter can be retrofitted, there are many 162E's around which are de facto EI's. Only thing that helps is to look at it.

victore1965 - as others have pointed out, the essential difference is whether the cylinder can be inter-changed. In terms of trigger quality, sights, balance, "shootability" etc, the 162e is the same as the newer model - so if you are being offered a 162e at a good price, it is worth getting.
