I understand that Steyr has brought out a new cylinder with a guage at the end of it.

Has anyone done a test with the new cylinders, and is there a difference in the weight of the cylinder with the guage, to the older type without the guage.

My wife reckons that with the guage in the front it could change the balance of the pistol, and there might be an added weight.

Can anyone answer this?

I noticed, at the Beijing World Cup Finals, that a number of shooters have the guages at the end of the cylinders. I remember that some time ago, there was talk on this list, about some of the guages getting damaged, or they blow off.

I also noticed that the Walther Air Cylinders have a 10 year life expectancy, and a recall notice. Has there been any such notice for Steyr?

The Steyr cylinder with gauge have replaced the older without gauge a long time ago.

Indeed, the air gauge increases a little bit the weight of the cylinder: I have old cylinders without gauge and new one with gauge and the new one is about 10g heavier.

About gauges being damaged, yes it happens that they do not work anymore. You then end up with a cylinder without gauge, no other consequence.

About blowing off, I heard something about that but do not remember the brand. I do not think it was Steyr and it was a long time ago.

The 10 year limit is I think valid for all brands, what is asked is to make the cylinders tested after 10 years. The date of manufacturing is written on the cylinders.

For Walther, the recall is due to a manufacturing problem and is done for only one type of cylinders manufactured during a given period of time, not for all cylinders.

Steyr cylinders have been fitted with gauges for a few years now, I believe since before the LP10 was released.

Here in the UK, Steyrs without cylinder gauges are the exception.

No, the first LP10 were delivered with cylinders without gauge (I still own two of these), remember that the LP10 appeared quite a long time ago: first one came out en 1999. It took two years or so to have cylinders with gauge.
