Hi, with drop in barrels and different headspace gauges out there what is the best one for ELEY .22 ammunition? I have seen .043 and .042 offered for sale so far. Eley seems to have a rim thickness of about .039. Looking for answers and why the difference

Hi Fred,
I purchased a .042" head-space guage from Dan Lilja online @ http://www.riflebarrels.com/ Total cost including shipping to central Europewas 25 us dollars,it arrived within 5 days. The cheapest price I could find for one manufactured over here was 150 euros!!!!

Before you think any more about about rimfire head-space read this article by Bill Calfee: http://www.snipersparadise.com/tsmag/june2004.htm .
He's making probably the most accurate .22 rifles in the world at this moment in time.

Alternately go here:

, and do a search for "Headspace"

With a .042" Gauge you can easily install the barrel to +/- .001" by simply adjusting the pressure needed to close the bolt on the barrel face.

Hope this helps, Jonno.
