Travelling with guns into Newyork

Hello
I am a shooter from India and am visiting Stamford CT. The nearest international airport is New Yorks La Guardia. What are the laws into bringing in airrifles there ?? I heard that airrifles are also banned. Please let me know.
Also if its banned any suggetions of the travel route / nearest airport to Stamford.
Any shooting ranges around there??

To avoid New York (something that's well worth the effort), try to get a flight to Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, CT (see
http://www.bradleyairport.com/flights/airlines.php ) or, if you're renting a car, fly through Newark, NJ, on a flight that has a connection on to Providence, Rhode Island.
Stamford? Interesting choice of places to visit:-)

As long as you can show thet you are not a resident of New York City, you're OK. Friends of mine frequently travel in and out of JFK for matches. When they fly out the police (or someone in uniform) want to check that they don't live in NYC. The ban on air rifles only applies to the city, not the balance of the state.

This is kind of an asside to this, but what types of guns AREN'T banned in NYC? The bans seem to be working so well on their crime peoblem, too. Isn't spray paint banned as well?

I've flown in and out of both JFK and LGA on numerous occasions with my smallbore rifle and air rifle and have never had a problem. My only suggestion is to arrive early. In addition to the airline looking at your air rifle, a Port Authority police officer will also inspect it so there a few hoops to jump through which may slow you down.
I'd also have in hand the TSA guidelines regarding firearm transportation just in case. I've never had an issue before but its always good to be prepared.
