At 57 years old I just got my first shooting jacket. It's an Anschutz standard Suede/Canvas. Do I have to do anything to break it in?

TIA

The only good way I know is to use it.

Hi Guest

Brian is right, just use it.
One German shooting coach told me once that when the shooting jacket is 'broken in' its time to renew it!! They (German national squad) on average change their jackets every 6 years or less depending on how much use it gets. This tends to be a fairly common practice amongst many shooting nations as the original new stiffness is so important.

Please don't do what i witenessed a few years ago where a guy sprayed his jacket with fabric softener because it was too stiff. One wrecked jacket.

You will almost certainly have to reposition the buttons after the jacket has formed to your body. You can't really do this on your own, you need the help of another person.Preferable someone who has an idea of how tight the jacket should be.

The instruction booklet that comes with a Kurt Thune made to measure coat suggests that you may have to this up to 3 times.
