with free pistol you can do pretty much anything to the grip, right ??

Pretty much, as long as you follow the rules (see ISSF for details). The only thing I can think of of the top of my head is that the wrist joint must be free and the grip can't touch it.

So far as I can see, part of the key to a good FP grip is to find one that's a nice snug fit both across your knuckles and around the back part of hand near your wrist. If you just hold your arm out and relax your hand, the grip should hold onto you and you should find the gun points right at the target without you having to use any muscle to get it there.

As a woman, my hand isn't all that beefy compared to most guys' hands. It's wider across my knuckles relative to the back part of my hand compared a guy's. But FP is supposed to be a mens event (even though at my club they let girls play) so guess what they design most FP grips to fit. That was a bit of a problem with the standard grip that came with my Pardini K22: To fit across my knuckles, it was too loose elsewhere. I ended up deciding to upgrade to a Rink grip, which has more adjustments.
