hello all, after years of heavy duty rimfire benchrest, we are toying with the notion of starting up some air rifle and air pistol matches at our club.

we are working on getting access to a nice new building they just finished at our club, and if so we will take our air rifles out for a test spin. we are messing around with 25 yard rimfire benchrest, but we are also interested in air rifle 3p and air pistol. i've shot some air pistol in the past and loved it.

i'll keep you all informed as to the development and welcome any suggestions. one of the first things we like is that pellets are cheap, real cheap..! with about $5000 tied up into our rimfire br rigs, the low cost of air rifles and the pellets are a real nice change. but what's this i hear about lot variation with pellets..?? i was hoping to get away from that.

thanks, steve.

Steve: International air rifle is all 10meters and all standing. Pistol is all 10m too. We run air rifle matches and pistol matches concurrently. With all of this there is really no reason you need to start with all the equipment. Start the matches and play by the rules of some sanctioning organization (USA shooting, NRA, or CMP). If you do it this way you get get as serious as you want with it. Also, by following already established rules you can jump in on other matches that are run elsewhere and even postals. 3p I think is sanctioned by the NRA and CMP.

Variation of pellets isn't so much in lots, as it is in size of pelllets. Various sizes of pelllets will shoot differently in different pistol/rifle. Try one manufacturer in diffent sizes, to see which works "best", then you should be set.
