6802 anschutz rear sight looseness

Post by mike mccabe »

I have a 6802 rear sight on my 1413. I am having trouble with a looseness in the iris carrier. There is an adjustment to take up looseness on the vertical dovetail with two flat tip screws, but I do not see an adjustment for horizontal tightness. Has anyone experienced this before ? It seems to be adjustable, I just can't seem to figure out how.

It should be ok. What you can't see is that there is a spring loaded ball bearing just above the windage screw. This ball bears against the body of the sight. Even though it may wiggle a little the spring loaded ball keeps it pressed against the little rod on the bottom. You can check this for yourself by slipping a piece of paper from the top down behind the carrier that the aperture mounts to and you should be able to feel the ball.
