Performance Standard Qualified

Post by Matt »

What is the process by which a competitor becomes 'Performance Standard Qualified'? Are there specific competitions that the competitor can attend to attain the qualification? Where are the competitions and when? What is the minimum qualification score for air pistol?

I ask this because this is the requirement to be selected to the 2006 World Team (Section 'A' - Paragraph 7).

A detailed answer would be greatly appreciated.

Only athletes who have attained the minimum qualification scores
can be entered in one or more events on the Olympic shooting
program. Minimum Qualification Scores can only be obtained in
eliminations and in qualification events at ISSF World
Championships, at the Continental Championships and in ISSF
designated Qualification Competitions (e.g. ISSF World Cups Art.
Q.12.1). MQS and quota places, Art. Q.5.2, are awarded during the
four (4) years between the Olympic Games. The minimum
qualification scores (MQS) have been established as follows:
Q.3.2 Rifle Discipline:
Q.3.2.1 Events for Men
50 m Rifle Prone Men 587
50 m Rifle 3 Positions Men 1135
10 m Air Rifle Men 570
Q.3.2.2 Events for Women
50 m Rifle 3 Positions Women 555
10 m Air Rifle Women 375
Q.3.3 Pistol Discipline:

Actually, I think he was talking about performance travel scores. USA Shooting sets scores that one has to have shot in order to get funded by the team. As I have been out of the game for a few years I'm not totally up on these things. However, there is a section that I just read at USA shootings website about travel scores. They now have an average score in addition to a single score shot in the previous year. The single score was rather high, 580something, but the average was 573.

Go to their website and then to policies and prodedures, you will find it.
