Re: Spotting Scammers
Question, I had a previous account with a couple of trader ratings, got locked out and eventually had to create a new profile. Here’s my questions for those that got “taken”. In any of these instances did you use PayPal and did they credit you the amount taken, or are they some part of the new woke agenda and don’t allow it. Honestly don’t know, just asking how folks protect themselves.

This account sent me the same scam twice. Use google image search on those photos.

Add Rubensavage to the list.
Re: Spotting Scammers
Rubensavage posted photos and words from a user on Stirton. That sale offer was from May, and from a person who went by a different name than Ruebensavage. Buyer beware.

Re: Spotting Scammers
If a business
1) lists a brand new item for sale yet doesn't have it because it's not available as advertised.
2) offers an older part as a substitute.
3) refuses to refund the full purchase price while claiming the buyer "changed their mind" upon finding out that older parts would be substituted.
Would that be considered a scam?

A determination such as that would be a matter for the Consumer Protection division of the state(s) involved. This thread is an aide for individuals with regard to spotting internet/forum scammers.oracle1973 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 29, 2024 10:33 am If a business

Re: Spotting Internet/Forum Scammers
I recently ran an ad looking for a centra sight. Almost immediately a member named Oxeb responded in a PM that he had one in original box for a really low price, even posted a pic. Oxeb only joined on 12/11/24.
Something about that pic seemed really familiar, as it had an unusual aperture on it.
I checked on TargetTalk, and sure enough there was the very same pic from 2019. I thought maybe he was the one that bought it back then, but asked him to put his contact info beside the sight and send me the pic. He photoshopped the info onto the same pic, which was easily revealed by editing the pic. I told him as much, and gave him a chance to send a real, recent pic with his info, but so far he hasn’t. My guess is he is a scammer, though I can’t prove it. Beware

New style scammers
Hello all,
Got burned by some good ones over Christmas. These guys are better than average at scamming. I put out a WTB for an air rifle and they answered my add. They sent me a drivers license of an older male Hispanic guy. Then an about 12 pictures of the air rifle. They wanted to use one of the payment apps so I said I would need a picture of the rifle with a today’s date and time first, which I got in about 20 minutes. I said okay, seems legit and sent them the money. Said the rifle shipped and I asked for a tracking number and was told “my brother shipped it for me I have to get it from him.” And then I started to wonder. He kept saying I’ll check for you all the time. I asked for the tracking number and dozen times and they always had an excuse and that’s when I knew I was scammed for good. I avoided them for years and did what I thought was the right thing but there’s no way I’ll ever send a direct payment again, not even to Jesus Christ, no blasphemy intended. So now I get to start saving all over again. Oh yeah, they then said they wanted to make it right and if I sent them even more money I would get an even newer air rifle with free pistols. I kept telling him I was broke, which I am, now. He finally figured out there was no money to be had and cut off all communications.
So even if you ask for a picture with a date and time you can still get hammered. And the little part in the back of my mind kept saying “too good to be true”. And I did’nt listen to it. From now on, I only pay with a way for me to get restitution and I’ll pay the extra 3.5%. They don’t take it I don’t buy it anymore. PayPal is it in these scamming times.
Thank you
Pat W

Re: New style scammers
Had a guy try to scam me last month.
I asked for a pic with his name and info next to it, and he sent one to me. I ran the photo through a photo editor and it showed he had photoshopped the pic.
The scammers are getting very creative

Re: New style scammers
Unfortunately this was not photo shopped, it was a good picture. That’s why I posted this.
Re: New style scammers
Maybe it's time to start asking for a short video instead of a still picture.

Re: New style scammers
Can you tell us which air rifle you wanted to buy??
Re: New style scammers
Always speak with the person selling the items, that will get rid of most people. I also had a guy ask for a live video chat of a more expensive walther lg400, had no problem with that and something I will be requesting too.

I got burned by this(these) guys over the holidays. One answered my WTB ad and referred me to another he vouched for. Learned my lesson.

Re: New style scammers
Anytime you place a WTB ad you will get scammers for sure.
