That's my understanding too. But it is also used to bring the trigger a little closer to a short finger.

Watch the trigger bar when you remove the shoe. On my Walther, the bar is metal, and on a cold day, it would suck the heat out of my finger. Sometimes my finger would go numb from the cold other times the finger would be just cold enough to give me trouble controlling my finger.
So put some kind of plastic over the metal bar to insulate it from her finger.
