Stop worrying about scores! Work on executing your shot process properly. The scores will be there when you can do that.

I'm a newbie too, seeing this thread is just an amazing entry to the sport - It really should be linked to Reddit somehow

Thanks. I try to keep it alive by adding results from my shooting.
Everyone should use this space to ask questions about what they are doing wrong/right.

Rule #1: DON'T focus on what you are doing wrong. Focus on how to do it right. Negatives are an abstraction invented by parents... ("Don't to this, don't do that...") The brain responds much better to POSITIVE instruction.

If you tell yourself not to jerk the trigger, the first thing your brain will register is "jerk the trigger". Focus on a smooth continuous trigger squeeze instead.

Thanks nmodal (if you're a newbie, I'm in utero) for starting this thread and keeping it going, and to the many folks here who've contributed such useful advice.

This is today - just came back from range. 40 shots, within reasonable time too : 55 mins.
Image

I had 3 7s. ( For 2 of them I have some clue, for 1 no clue )
I had 3 8s. ( for all of them I have clue why ).
17 X 9. I can tell for 10 of them it was shot just not right.

Alignment - between home vs range

I think there is a tiny issue with alignment.
This is from home, today.
20 + 20 + 10 shots.
In the last one I fixed sight ( moved to left a bit )

The horizontal spread is not a sight adjustment issue. You need to fix that before you mess with your sights. 4 likely causes with corrections:

Finger tip pressure on the grip: Keep your finger tips off the side of the grip. The most consistent pressure you can apply is ZERO.

Thumb pressure on the grip: Keep your thumb off the side of the grip. The most consistent pressure you can apply is ZERO.

This can also be caused by a grip that doesn't quite fit right. If you line up your sights and tense your grip and the sights move sideways you either need to adjust the grip on the pistol, or learn not to tense up in anticipation of the shot.

All three of these are the result of anticipation & changing grip pressure in various places around the grip, twisting it sideways. Concentrate on a smooth trigger squeeze, and NOT on firing the shot.

The last one is losing concentration on the centering of the front sight in the rear. Try to maintain a symmetrical sight picture:
https://www.targettalk.org/viewtopic.ph ... 59#p268959

If the front sight tend to drift sideways, you need to adjust your stance or your possibly the grip angle on the pistol. That's one of the big advantages of pistols like Steyrs, in that you can dial that out with a mechanical adjustment rather than a file & putty.

This is today.

0 Warm up. 25 mins. 20 shots.
In between 5 mins break.
So literally 20 shots, 20 mins.
Initial 11 shots had 6 10s.

Hmmmmmm, how great would the target look if that barrel had been ported by an eager do-it-yourselfer?

seems you are improving.
forget tampering with the barrel and focus on your training.
my humble advice.

Yes man. Doing only that.
This is today. Got close to 30 mins free.
My left thumb got a deep cut today... shaving disaster.. I shave with open blades - was not careful enough.
So took some time to fill up pellets using right hand only.

I am stuck at 94.
1 8. 2 high 9s. 2 low 9s.
I could call the 8. Somehow I felt it was a terrible shot.

Shaving disaster . . . just imagine how terrible your results if you drilled your barrel . . . .

Stay safe my friend . . . Darwin Award is out there.

The question is: WHY was it a terrible shot? A poorly timed wobble (it happens), or did it lurch over there due to poor triggering or anticipation?

If it was that obvious after it was fired, were there any clues BEFORE you shot it that could have helped you abort that shot?

A poorly timed wobble

And this is today from range 20 shots:

Still 2 8s.
You have to ignore the 1st ones - cause I was fixing stance. In fact first two shots were 8,9 and then 10s started. That is when I could get the stance and position right.
===
P.S. In our state meet - they give us 10 mins prep time. Hence I am practicing in the mode of all shots competition shots.

Before you get to the "prep time", you could be dry-firing. Also, don't start adjusting your sights based on your first target. If a shot is "off", dry fire a few times to make sure you don't repeat your mistake.

I understand Rover sir - but the trouble with me is the stance.
I am a right handed person - who shoots with left eye - with eye patch on the right.
So this is the stance I take from left [3]rd one ( ME ):

I do not adjust sight. I have to physically move. To left or right or to front and back.
:(

In fact I have noticed the more direct I see the target - w/o bending neck - the better accuracy I get.

One thing that I found helped a lots when I've shot cross-dominant is an offset grip. Rink makes them with a 7 degree twist so the pistol lines up more naturally with my aiming eye. That puts your arm & wrist in a more comfortable position, but lines the sights up with you dominant eye. Before I got one, I was constantly fighting to keep the pistol lined up sideways because my wrist wanted to be straighter.

Same here. Thanks GWhite sir.
But the grip needs to wait for now, cause I have to personally go and get the grip - after fitting.
There is some confusion going on with the size. I am using S-grip ( small ) walther - but Rink is saying it should be XXS - for 75 mm.
I do not think I am 75 mm more like 81 mm.
Now they also told me my palm drawing is not accurate - and it is highly possible. Thus - I put it under pause for now.
Sooner or later I would go to Germany to get the grip up n running.
