Change to Modern Pentathlon Shooting Format

Post by Rutty »

The shooting event in Modern Pentahlon is to be combined with the running. It sounds somewhat similar to the winter biathlon. A link containing some UK reaction is here:

Penthalon rules change

Post by 2650 Plus »

Richard, the US Army changed the rules for the all army rifle competition many years ago to require a 2 mile run just before we fired the competition. Us old guys ran slower but shot faster and still won the match to the utter disgust of those who thought they had finally figured out how to have a young sprinter win the match. We kept telling them [ the Generals] that if you shot good enough all that running wasn't necessary. We may have lost the argument but we kept on winning the competition. So , yesss its possible when you have non shooters making the rules. Lets hope we never reach that point. Good Shooting Bill Horton

Bill the wink at the end is because it's sarcastic. There are many changes that have been made even in the recent past ie blinder size and the removal of hat with flaps for rifle shooters, which were both done to improve the sport for TV.
