Because of the inconsistency in airport security and the often lack of knowledge of TSA personnel I am extremely concerned about 3 international trips I will be making this year for competitions involving my air weapons.
According to the strictest TSA guidelines, an air cylinder is permitted in checked baggage if it may be disassembled to clearly show that there are no prohibited items inside the cylinder. My question then is, for an Anschutz CA cylinder, what is the potential damage to the cylinder itself if it is unscrewed for inspection and then re-assembled for use in competition? If I need to try and ship my cylinders ahead of time I can do that but if there is no problem with opening the cylinders and putting them back together, that is another option I can consider. Any input is greatly appreciated.

I think the key for most is keeping the cylinder attached to the gun.
It must, however, be drained ... no pressure. If a cylinder is separate from the gun, then that is when folk have had problems. So if the other cylinders are "spares", then yeah .... you may be asking for issues.
Declare that it is an unloaded firearm. Now TSA is specifically prohibited from handling the fire arm when they inspect, but I've had many firearms mysteriously get turned around in the gun case .... complaining does no good as they cannot track it
