revolver match sight recommendations?

Post by solomon grundy »

I have a S&W Model 14 (i.e. 6" bbl K38) w/ stock front and rear sights. It's been taylor throated and tuned-up by Jim Stroh at Alpha Precision in the US. I'm hoping to use it in BE and other centerfire competitions.

Which makes/models of match sights are people using w/ the K38?

It seems that Bo-Mar is currently defunct. I know that Aristocrat makes a sight rib, but I'm hoping to avoid using a sheath if possible.

What other options are there?

Millet seems to be a reasonable replacement for the rear sight; the blade needs to be opened up with a file and the front sight on a S&W needs to be built up (or out) to make it wider.

I don't have a S&W, but my Manurhin MR38 got itself a Morini rear sight - "custom" :-) - looks cool and its great to shoot.

Still using the stock S&W sights on my 686. Had a red ramp front that I punched out and filed to a partridge style opened up the rear with a file as well. A club member has a K38 that he opened up the rear sight to much on. Superglued a piece of hacksaw blade to the side of the front sight to increase its width and proceded to shot a 291 in dualling first time out.

Millets are better than the base S+W sight.
If you don't like the blade you can solder a larger piece of metal on the back.

Like you, I own a S&W model 14, with a square tang. I spoke with Millett yesterday (Sept 8th 2008) and they are no longer making an adjustable sight for the S&W revolver that requires a square tang. I know its listed on their site.

Jack Weigand produces a rear target sight blade for the revolver. However, if you're like me, a Canadian, I can't order it because he can't ship is parts out of the country.
