This is kinda funky as sporter here in the US is normally thought of as a Junior event.
I'm not sure there are any "International" events other than the US-South Africa postal event that NRA shoots at the Team Airgun Nationals.
You might already know, but if not, there are two US national organizations that sponsor Sporter Air Rifle events ... the CMP and the NRA ... why they don't get together .... longer story there.
The rules are almost identical, but the NRA allows more rifles to be called "sporter" than does the CMP ... i.e. the CMP does not consider the Air Arms MPR in the "sporter config" to be a sporter

So from what I know of, I'd say the 573. The 2007 repeat was on electronically scored targets (CMP Orion), and there were a few complaints that the targets were scored very tough and almost no challenges were won.

At SANSSU the record is 576 fired with a MPR and at SAARA the record is 572 fired with a T200. It must also be said that SA sporter rules are less strict than US rules.

The 500g trigger is just a hair over a pound, so that would put the gun into the precision class here.
The 888 does not have an adjustable stock ... about the only thing you can do is put spacers in to lengthen the LOP ... or in the case of some of my 8&9 year olds ... lop off an inch to 1-1/2inch.
Don't think you could get the trigger down to a pound on the 888 & still be safe. The minimum I run our 888/887 triggers at is about 2 pounds
Also here in the US the adjustable buttplate of the XS40 types must be fixed in the centered position.
But still a 575 with a 1lb trigger and a short sight radius is nothin to sneeze at.

This biggest hurdle for this is that once kids begin shootin in the 540+ range, they have all the skills, and probably the desire as well, to move into precision gear.
If they are on a High School JROTC team, they are bumped up to precision as early as the high 520's as they have freshman coming in & they use the sporter program to see who wants to put in the time required.
My feeling is that, for the most part if you take a 530's to 540's shooter and put them in P-gear, you see an immediate improvement of 25-30 points. It's AWFULLY HARD to hide bad habits shooting a sporter. A 540-550-560 sporter shooter should easily start shooting 570's & 580's ... get them up to the 585's in precision & they may get some scholorships to help out in college.
Bottom line .... hard to keep them in sporter forever.
Example: My youngest daughter (13). As soon as she hit 520 in sporter she lost ALL interest in shooting that gun. I would have liked her to spend another 6-7 months in sporter and get up into the 530-540 range. But it was buy her P-gear (so that she could keep up with her older sister) or watch her mope and not try. She's now shooting high 560's - low 570's and has moved into smallbore as well (shot a PR 540 this past Monday)
So as my opinion, and my opinion only to your question:
