Shooting Glasses - Adjusting

Hi,
I bought used Knoblochs from a shooter on this list. They are an older style. I bought an extra glass holder because I need both eyes or I will not be able to see a pellet. I picked them up from the optician about a week ago. Anyway, I now have two glass holders and one of them places the glass a bit closer to the eye. Is closer considered better? I can change and have the "preferred" method for my shooting eye.

Your shooting eye lens should have been prescribed using a set distance from the eye. Moving the lens closer or further away will alter the effective strength.

The effect of changing the distance will be more pronounced with stronger lenses. If you don't normally where spectacles then you probably won't notice the difference as the lens will be weak.

Do you happen to know whether moving the lens closer increases effective strength (more positive diopter)? Or vice versa? I can adjust eye to lens distance with my MEC frames and this sounds like a useful way to 'tune' my lens strength for conditions.

My prescription is quite strong. It is a + adjustment as I am farsighted.

Sorry Fred, if I ever did know then I've forgotten it now. My shooting lens is -6.75 and it has to be within 1-2mm of the correct position or I know there is something wrong.

I use 25 year old Champions where the only adjustment is by changing the mounting block or changing the angle of the nose piece. The frames (and a pistol) have to accompany me to the eye test to get it right.
