945 smith

Want to know if the 945 smith is a good gun for shooting centerfire matches. have a chance to get one cheap. or should I go with the colt gold cup. Don't really know which one to start with. only one match under my belt ,and I'm hooked so any help would be good. thanks

If you want to participate in center fire matches according the ISSF rules .45 is to big, maximum is 9 mm. And 9mm Luger is considered to powerful and not acurate enough to face the .38 or .32 Wadcutters. Most of the guns used in ISSF center fire today are .32 S&W Long.

If you are talking about NRA Conventional pistol matches (900, 1800, 2700) the 745 would be fine for centerfire and .45 stages.

You may be able tohave a better trigger done for a 1911 type .45 though.

How much is cheap for the 745?

The S&W 745, 845, and 945 are all accurate guns. 945s especially, as the Performance Center knows what they are doing.

On the other hand, the 1911s have a bigger support network.

I've got both.
