ISSF rules help (about grips)

Post by tlightburn »

Hi,

I'm Ted and I'm new here. I've only made it through half of hte pages in this section, so i'm sorry if this has been discussed before.

I got an IZH-46M and am going to start shaping the grips. What are the restrictions on shaping to be legal? Specifically, the back edge of the hand rest digs into my wrist. Am I allowed to break this edge, ie make it a radius instead of a sharp 90 degree angle? I made a shelf out of maple and cut a "cup" out of it with a round shure form rasp, but it looks like that isn't legal. Thanks for your help.

From Pg 409 of:
http://www.issf-shooting.org/rules/engl ... nd_all.pdf

a) 10 m Air Pistol Grips: No part of the grip, frame or accessories may touch any part of the wrist. The heel rest must extend at an
angle of not less than 90 degrees to the grip. This applies to the heel rest in front and behind the grip as well as on the sides. Any upward
curvature of the heel and/or thumb rest and/or a downward curvature of the side opposite the thumb is prohibited. The thumb rest must
allow free upward movement of the thumb. The grip must not encircle the hand. Curved surfaces on the grips or frame, including the heel
and/or thumb rest, in the longitudinal direction of the pistol are permitted.

If you are hollowing out that area so that it doesn't touch your wrist, why don't you just cut it off completely.

What you have done falls foul of 8.16.0.a and 8.17.0

I'm glad I didn't start carving up the original grip! back to the woodshop. Smaller this time instead of bigger!

Cheers,
