Need help diagnosing a failing Steyr LG10P rifle

Post by veeshooter »

I am trying to repair a Steyr LG10P that has the following symptoms:

It will lose almost all of its air when the cylinder is left on for a day or so,
and the shooter says that it is shooting slightly inconsistently.

My first throught is that it is the valve that the firing pin hits. This part failed on my gun with very similiar symptoms. I have dissasembled the gun and looked at this part and visually (as far as my old eye go) it _appears_ to be OK. It is the newer metal version, not the plastic thing that broke in my gun. However I do know that even with my gun the damage was not readily apparent.

The gun was serviced when the shooter was at the WC in Ft. Benning earlier this year so I presume that all the seals are good.

Any thoughts as to what could be the problem?

Clueless guess: Is the cylinder itself leaking?
Tried & true advice: Sounds like a job for Scott Pilkington!

No, the cylinder itself is not leaking. It does not lose air if it is not on the gun. The cylinder is only depleted when attached to the gun.

I would gladly get it to Scott but it is not feasable at this time.
