Remington 40x and Match sights?

Post by cqbarms »

I have a Remi 40x that is set up for a scope at the moment. The rear has a dovetail and the front of the barrel is drilled and tapped but has no sights.

What are my options for "match sights" ala Anschutz, steyr, fwb for this gun?

Anyone set one up with a tube and sights?

Suggestions?

The period correct sights for the 40X were Redfield Olympic or International setups with matching globe fronts. I am unaware of an adaptor base for the groove mount Euro sights. Companies like Neal Johnson, Champions Choice would probably know.

I had the same problem with a Winchester 52E.

I ended up buying a ball end mill and a dovetail cutter and making the mount myself (I used the machine shop at work on a sunday).

I have built a couple of position 300 meter rifles with Remington actions, 700 and 40X. I bought Bill Ernest's 11mm rail, for Anschutz sight, which is perfectly fit and built. It extended a bit further in front of the action for a potential installation of mirage band catcher.

I used the older model of Anschutz rear sight, iron construction, to do my 6BR shooting. I do not know how the Anschutz sights tolerate the bigger calibers' recoiling.

Bill's in PA.

I will need to earn his agreement prior to post his phone numbers, please pardon me.

Any updates on contact information for Bill? I too am interested in fitting some Anschutz sights to my 40X. I can't find any references to Bill on the Internet. Thanks in advance.
