Adjustable butt plates for ISSF

Hi,
I've been thinking of adding an adjustable butt plate to my Weihrauch HW660

The current buttplate is adjustable vertically and by length (using spacers). I'm looking at an adjustable buttplate that would offer the following adjustments: length of pull, vertical adjustment, cant (rotation) and offset (horizontal) ref http://www.masterclassstocks.com/accessories.html DV 4-way Buttplate.

My question; would this type (4 way) of buttplate be allowed under ISSF rules for Standard rifle?

The standard rifle class was dropped as of 1st Jan 1997, and was replaced by the Sport Rifle. It is still retained for ISSF 300m, but not for .22".

So yes you can fit one.

I would wonder why though? Rather than putting a new butt on the Weihrauch you might consider uprading to a rifle that has more adjustment throughout. If you do prefer the Weihrauch you might be better of using an MEC or Gemini butt as these will give a much closer fit in your shoulder (especially if you shoot standing) than anything else.

Thanks for the input. I've been getting back into this after a 20 year hiatus, so it seems the terminology has changed a bit! As to why not buy another rifle, it's the same old story-money or lack thereof!

Ah! We all suffer from that at times.

I'd still suggest not fitting that 4-way butt for a while. Weihrauch seem to fit the old Anschutz 4709 butt, that's good enough to statrt with. I do honestly think it would be better to carry on using the rifle as it is, and to save your money for a more adjustable rifle.

If you are only shooting prone lengthening the butt with spacers is not that much of a chore. And if you can shoot without a cant you won't need the twisting movement either.

If you really do want a shiny new butt plate, Id go for one thta can be off-set to the right and not just twisted.

Thanks for the input. Does that Anschutz plate offset? That was my main reason for looking at the 4 way to begin with. Seems most of the older plates do up/down and maybe in/out.

No the plastic plate was designed in the '60 to meet the Standard Rifle rules. Anschutz replaced it in the late 80s with one that could be off-set.

One of the butts specifically designed for ISSF type stuff such as the MEC Contact or Gemini will offset, and are probably going to be easier to fit than the masterclass. They should also give a better fit in the shoulder than the flat plate, especially shooting standing.

You might want to consider what effect the masterclass will have on the balance of your rifle. It seems to be quite a sturdy piece, and may make your Weihrauch butt-heavy.

Also the masterclass butt will add quite a bit to the stock length. Unless you are very tall this may be too much. A butt that is overly long requires the shooter to lay at quite an angle to the rifle. A shoter butt aloows you to lie much more BEHIND the rifle. I'm 6' 2" and use a 13ish" pull length on my 1813 (or one spacer with a 1407, similar to your Weihrauch).

You may find that spending lots of money won't solve all the problems. The Weirauch is not a top-of-the line model; it may be a good rifle for a relative novice, but later you may want (or can afford) something better.
A basic rifle with a fancy butt will only ever be a basic rifle with a fancy butt.

These comments aren't criticism, just (hopefully) considered advice.
