Shooting in central Iowa?

Post by cydisc »

I'm brand new to AP. Looking for clubs or leagues to join in the Des Moines or Ames area.

Cydisc, The Izack Walton club in ames would be a good place to start. They hold the state games there and have a nice indoor range, at least as far as Iowa is concerned. Marvin Scott has been director of shooting for the state games in the recent last years and he can tell you about the club and perhaps about other shooting spots. Iowa is a near wasteland for international stuff but Ames, Marshalltown, and West Liberty has some. When I went to ISU in the eighties, the scool had a shooting club that shared the range with ROTC and PE, but sadly it got converted into a classroom to get rid of the opportunity. There are some matches in Omaha Nebraska but currently they are off till the ROTC situation can be resolved. Hope to see you at a match sometime and do try the state games, lots of fun, informal, and cheap. Regards, Dwaine
