Pellet trap

Post by Dave C. »

I use an Outers 22 caliber bullet trap. It stops pellets just fine. To stop most particles that splash back I taped a sheet of cardboard to the face of the trap, this eliminates 99% of any splash back.

Pellet traps and backstops

Post by Doug B »

I have had a 10M range (2 position) set up in my basement for more than 20 years. I started with a wood box filled with newspaper but after a couple years went to the Outers 22 pellet traps because with five or six people shooting 60 shots the paper trap needed a lot of maintenance. The resulting ping noise from the metal traps is not a problem in the basement. I do have a 4 X 8 sheet of half inch plywood on the wall behind the pellet traps and over the years it has taken many hits.
We have had a Wednesday nite shoot open to anyone interested in air rifle/air pistol and most, being competitive shooters, can keep them in the black but we do get new shooters trying the sport for the first time.
No matter how many times you tell them the trigger is lighter than they are used too and don't touch the trigger until you are on the target the plywood always take another hit or two.
I guess we have averaged 20 to 30 thousand pellets a year over the years on my basement range and the Outers traps have worked well but we do get bounce outs on occasion. I just sweep them up but I guess we could put a cover over the face of the trap to prevent them.

Didn't mean to be longwinded. Just my experiencewith indoor ranges.
