Pellet sizes

What is the difference besides size and is there an advantage in using one over the other. I see pellets listed as 4.50, 4.49 both listed for .177 air guns. Is one better for CO2 etc

Either you have to test fire your particular gun to see what size groups the best, or the test target that comes with a new rifle may have the diameter they used noted.

AR testing

Post by Bob Foth »

I tested many lots in many rifles (mostly NT level shooters).
It was normal to find at least two sizes represented in the three best lots for each rifle. Also normal to find at least one poor match that was the same size as the best match.
Soooo...
You need to test each lot in your rifle.
The good news?
Most of the high grade ammo tested ok and it is VERY EASY to test.
You need to mount your rifle in a secure vise WITHOUT BREAKING THE STOCK and fire ten shot groups at 10m.

LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO SHOOT BAD AMMO.
Good ammo speeds up the learning process by giving you more accurate feedback about what you are doing. It also equates to having a "bigger" ten ring to hit than the poor athlete next to you who doesn't have a good barrel-ammo combination.
