I am trying to find more info on ataining the proper grip; specifically on a SP20 and Morini 162EI. Questions include: what part of the hand actually holds the gun. If the front sight is off to the left or down, etc. where do I remove or add material. What is the purpose of the adjustable shelf?
Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

grip modification.
Don Nygord wrote 2 very useful articles that will help you sort out what's what. Look in the "Nygord's Notes" section. Important advice: take it slow because small changes in the grip can make for big changes in your hold.

I looked at the notes mentioned above after searching the archives for the word grips and reading every post. Terrific help with fitting my grips. If you use any kind of filler to replace or build up an area. I really liked the product called Quick Wood. It was available at my local home depot store as well as a local hardwood supplier. Easy to use and comes in wood colors. I started modifying my grip by extending my pistol and squeezing the trigger. I removed wood to bring the sights into alignment in a natural way. At the same time I would squeeze the trigger and when I got to a point that my action on the trigger would not move the front sight out of alignment I quit removing wood. This meant to me that I was squezzing strait to the rear. When I am gripping the gun I generally think of my middle fingers placement and where the front of the the grip rest against the top of my middle finger.
Now I must tell you at this writing I have ony been shooting this style of pistol for about 3 months. I am doing well and in the three matches that I have shot I am averaging 536. Not sure how this is in comparison to anyone else other than the two or three guys that I have been in the matches with. They all shoot in the 560 range. Good luck and I hope this helps.
