weight lifting shoes for shooting 10M AP
Korean world champion wears Addidas weight lifting shoes for shooting, with raised heel and low lying front patting.

Raised heel? Any rationale for this?

He probably prefers the weight distribution it gives him.seamaster wrote: Raised heel? Any rationale for this?
Some people prefer more weight on the toes, others don't.
Re: weight lifting shoes for shooting 10M AP
I have the same shoes as Jin Jongoh and the are outstanding. If you have never used shooting shoes before you can feel an instant improvement of stability.
Benefits:
The weight lifting shoes are much cheaper than the branded shooting shoes.
Raised heels design for improved stability

Re: weight lifting shoes for shooting 10M AP
I know this is an old thread, but any up to date advice on weightlifting vs pistol shoes. I have noticed that I do sway sometimes and many shots I abandon are due to swaying.
If I should get shoes is there a difference between weight lifting shoes or shooting shoes?
Is there a sizing protocol? It appears you have to order on line as not stocked in shoes shops.
I live in Wiltshire, UK, just for information.

I wear indoor soccer shoes because they have a very thin sole with almost no cushioning. And they're cheap and easy to find.
Re: weight lifting shoes for shooting 10M AP
I tried both. Weightlifting and shooting shoes are similar in the sense that their soles are not squishy. I eventually decided I like the flat soles over the raised heels. But both worked well. It's very much a preference thing.

Hi Bret,
There is a simple test you can do. Try dry firing barefoot at home, (doubt that you can do it at the range... ;) ).
See if the sway persists. If not, get stiffer shoes. If things are the same, your sway is in your articulations and no shoe is going to fix that.
I've tried both, indoor football shoes and shooting shoes. Didn't make a difference. YMMV...
Make sure that whatever you wear doesn't cover your ankle bone, as per ISSF rules.
Hope this helps
(edit to correct to ankle bone)

Rule 8.5.1 is "Only low-sided shoes that do not cover the ankle bone (below the medial and lateral malleolus) are permitted.
Ankle bone, NOT heel bone.
'

I've used the Adidas power lift, Sauer and Corami shoes, plus a lot of streetwear and tennis shoes.
You have to figure out which style of balance suits you better: more forward leaning or more vertical leaning. You feel it in your feet and ankels.
Just using the same shoes all the time for shooting will help you without having to spend extra. A lot of models have a flat outer sole (the part that contacts the floor) and no air chamber (they are more wobbly).
You can also get used to shoot with different shoes and adapt to them. If you pay attention to this you will learm a lot about your balance. Different events may mean different preferences.
Putting more effort in training and doing holds will be more beneficial to your balance.
But we all like to gift ourselves some treats amd that's allright too :)

If you are swaying is it a visual thing and you have a blinder that is too large and your "spare" eye cannot pick out things to use as a reference to enable your systems keep you steady.

. . . so let's totally Hijack this thread:
Perhaps CMP can improve the SOUND TRACK during a 75 minute match . . . instead of their chronic Funeral-Dirge-Pop music . . . how 'bout:

You say that as a joke but one of my training drills involves replacing my target lamp with a digital projector, projecting Cocomelon onto a blank target, and turning up the music. Really forces you to concentrate on the front sight with both visual and auditory distractions.atomicgale wrote: ↑Thu Mar 06, 2025 10:37 pm .or for mental discipline - endure THE CHIPMUNKS on CRACK for an hour and 15 minutes & you're ready to invade Russia in the Winter.

Just add some Mescaline & Tequilla, then you'll REALLY be into THE ZONE . . . .PirateJohn wrote: ↑Thu Mar 06, 2025 10:58 pm Really forces you to concentrate on the front sight with both visual and auditory distractions.

Re: weight lifting shoes for shooting 10M AP
Thank you everyone for you comments and advice.
I have tried with no shoes and a seem to be more stable. I don't wear glasses or blinders of any type.
To me it would make more sense to use barefoot shoes or even 5 toed shoes as very thin base and feedback from the ground. Weightlifting or shooting shoes are thicker soles. Just a thought.
Someone suggested plimsolls which may be similar as well?
Thank you all again.
Have a great week

I wonder if the neoprene surfers footwear would do the job? Stability must be all important to them as well. I seem to recall the slip-on footwear they use was pretty cheap, I used to wear them for swimming from stony beaches and never paid very much for them.
