Smart grip

Post by Khhvf »

Has someone tried it? It’s sold by company ”smart grip”. I’m interested but like to hear some reviews before buying.

Seams quite expensive if you include the supporting plate. I've ordered a meshpro for about €350, smart grip appears to be more expensive when adding in all the extras? Not sure how Ring grips compare. Have said my current experience with grips on another thread, will let you know if meshpro were good on that thread, when I get it in April.
Good luck.

Well the rink price for grip is like 20€ less than smart grip. I didn’t include the rest for smart grip. I’m most interested what would fit my hand best and because of that if someone has found the smart grip modification pieces convenient.

I'm not sure what their delivery time is like now, but I ordered 3 Rink grips in early October for the team I help coach, They finally arrived last week, so about 4 months. I suspect they are swamped with new orders from everyone who saw the buzz about Olympic air pistol shooting on the various news feeds.

I've handled one for a little bit, here's my pros and cons:

Pros:
- The parts that come with it offer a huge amount of customization, considering it can't be molded and shaped traditionally
- It's also great as a secondary grip for very quickly prototyping ideas before you apply them to your primary grip
- It fits almost any brand of pistol out there
- It's textured about as well as a polymer grip can be
- It looks a lot nicer in person than in photos, at least in my opinion
- You don't just get a bag of parts and well wishes, it arrives in a quality case and a very well prepared user manual

Cons:
- It does weight notably more than even my medium sized wooden grip with a considerable amount of polymer clay added to it
- The texture and surface is not as pleasant as Meshpro
- There is no real way to make it fit for S and XS sized hands, it's more of an "M and up" sized base, at least for now

I wrote this a few months ago when I got mine, still happy.

I bought my pistol secondhand, so wasn’t able to pick a grip size, it fitted ok but I never felt it fitted perfect and I couldn’t work out why. I looked at getting a new Morini grip or a Rink grip but was a little put off by not being able to pick one up and feel exactly which size was best. So I bit the bullet and ordered one of the Smartgrips as advertised earlier on this group. Here is my feed back and a mini review.

The Smartgrip is designed in a very clever way, not only is it supplied with a bag full of different sized inserts allowing you to totally customise the fit, it also comes with many different screws and inserts so it will fit almost any pistol. The bonus of this I didn’t even think of is that you can sell one pistol with the old grip and keep the Smartgrip to bolt to your new pistol no matter what make.

What does it cost? You actually purchase of a website and it is shipped from Europe so there is an exchange rate and you get hit with import tax, my credit card showed £216 for the grip including shipping and a small discount code that was emailed and £71 for tax and customs charge, so £ 287 landed.

In the box is everything you need to fit the grip to a wide selection of pistols, make a selection of choices to fit and the way the is angled in the grip. A few allan keys and very well printed clear instructions, all in a nice zip closed foam lined case.

Fitting. I always find taking my Morini grip apart a nightmare I am afraid of breaking the cables or board inside, so I put it off a few days, I’m not going to lie I found it a bit fiddly, not hard just fiddly threading the cable through and plugging it all back together again, once assembled the pistol fit felt great and it lined up perfect, but it sat high in the grip, about 6~8mm looked a bit odd and more importantly meant it no longer fitted in the case.

I reached out to Socrates the designer as I thought it might be something I had done wrong he replied via email with a WhatsApp number asking I call him, he also sent a few pictures showing how it did fit (really nice helpful guy). I have just taken all apart and refitted the grip, it was me and now fits great and back in the original Morini case (a bit tight but it fits).

What do I think of the grip?
- very well packaged
- fast delivery (2 days from ordered)
- totally customisable, fit, pistol and colour
- I think well priced (same as other grips)
- I don’t think any corners have been cut in production or parts

Hope that my thoughts help, if anybody has any questions I’m happy to answer, but these are my opinions only.
