What to do with old precision air/CO2 rifles

Post by PaulB »

I have unfortunately become the possessor of a number of old (60's (?) to 90's) air/CO2 rifles. They are spring piston, pneumatic and CO2. Only a few maybe working. Most have problems, mainly a need for new seals or rings. Brands are Walther, Anschutz, Feinwerkbau, Hammerli, Diana, Chinese. Does anyone do anything with these "oldies, but not so good" guns? Any repair services, and is it worth it? Are they even worth the cost and trouble to ship them to someone? How do you "properly" dispose of a non-working airgun? Any advice would be helpful.

Some classics like FWB 300's and Anschutz 380's still have quite a following.

Your best bet is to dig into the generic (non-Olympic) air gun forums like AirgunNation.com, GatewayToAirguns.org, etc. It might take a bit of work but you might be surprised at what is still valuable in someone's eyes.

It wouldn't hurt to list them here as well. I know I'm not the only non-Olympic style air rifle competitor that visits this forum.

Give them to @gwhite. He'll put them to good use with young shooters

What Allen said. They are great rifles for practice for the not so serious shooters. Watch for airgun shows and sell them. Closest to me is Carlisle, PA on May 3. The SSPs and the spring guns will sell. CO2 not so much.

Lots of guys repair them.

Definitely good air rifles. Back in 1989, could shoot Standing 99 using a FWB 601 SSP, we all had them, we all shot them, as they were cutting edge at the time.
Same goes for the others that you mention.
In this present day, it is not hard to find a used CO2 tank, possibly buy it already filled, or have it hydro tested and filled, I did the math a while back, one filled co2 tank is good for 20,000 shots, with a FWB C60 air rifle.
