IZH-Sight Inserts - Source

Hey all

Finally got around to carving my IZH-46M grips, now working on sighting it in. When I bought it used, it didn't come with all of the sight inserts - wondering if there is a place to source them from? I've done some searching but I've come up empty.

What I'm looking for specifically is the front insert that is as wide as the black rings at 10m so I can use a sub 6 hold. The current setup, the rear sight is about that wide, but the front is narrower - would need a wider front and a wider rear.

The front sight is a pretty simple piece of metal. If worse comes to worse, you could make a wider one, even out of black plastic or aluminum.

The rear sight blades have two different sized notches. You take out the screws, and rotate the blade 180 degrees to change width. NOTE! The rear sight screws are weird, and you need to turn them backwards.

Have you checked that the other notch on your current blade isn't wider? Also, if both of the rear notches are too narrow, you could widen one with a file.

Yeah - I could fab some up and that's my fallback plan - I just figured since they are still making them (albeit re badged) that they would be available. I may just contact Pyramid Air.)

As for the car eight notches - I did check, and the notch opposite my current blade is actually narrower. Fallback is to machine it out if I can't source additional parts.

As I understand the sub six hold, you want the front post to be about as wide as the black rings on the target at 10m - my front post is only about half as wide.

You don't have to.

Actually, a smaller front sight may help you center your sights better under the bullseye. It is a question of preference.

In any case, play with the rear sight to let more or less white space around the front sight. Extremes are never good, so not too broad nor too tight to ensure that you can more easily keep the front sight centered.

I do have pieces for a IZH-1, but I doubt they will be interchangeable (it is a 50m pistol). Share pictures of your pistol to see if I can find some to share the measures of.

That you. I'll get measurements later this evening. I picked up some sheet aluminum so I'm going to fabricate up a new front and rear post to try - I may not like the wider post, but I'd at least like to see the difference. The current front post is about 1-1.5mm narrower than the black rings at 10m

The US Olympic Training Center and the MEC book both recommend a very symmetrical sight picture. Not only is the width of the front sight matched to the apparent width of the black, but the sight side gaps & space below the black are the same:

Thank you - this is exactly what I'm striving for - and with the current sights, it's not possible. I'm going to try and fab something out of aluminum sheet stock.
