Do you use different lenses for air pistol and 22LR pistol?

Post by Ziperix »

I’m looking to get a pair of shooting glasses. What I understand is that i need a weaker lense than my prescription so that my eyesight is focused on the front sight. Does that mean I need a separate lense for air pistol and sport pistol? The distance from my eye to the sight is different on both, anyone with experience?

Talk to your eye doctor, but the difference in distance is likely small enough that it won't change the prescription

Depending on eye fatigue there dan be a difference of + 0.25 diopter.
Yes I do have two sets of lens in two different tints.
Biggest difference can be between Free pistol and Air.

The difference is small enough that it's not an issue in practice. Depending on who makes your lenses, the tolerances on lens grinding are usually larger than the theoretical change in correction.

If you shoot .22 outdoors, you may find that you want a difference prescription. The issue is that with really bright light, your pupil contracts, and your depth of field goes way up. The target gets much sharper, and it's much easier to lose focus on your front sight.

I use filters outdoors to try to cut the light down closer to what I have indoors. I had a hard time getting a filter dark enough to deal with really sunny days. I also use a mild filter to tone down the bright illumination of electronic targets compared to my basement range.

An adjustable iris can accommodate changes in light as well as changes in sight radius...especially for older shooters. Allowing one to use the lens to correct for astigmatism.

Can't I correct astigmatism using lense in my shooting glasses?

I'm getting a bit confused, my right eye prescription is
SPH -2.75 CYL -0.5 AXIS 5.

I know I should add about 0.75 to my current prescription however when trying -2 glasses the front sight was quite blurry. My optician told me I should "add sphere to cylinder and then add +0.75" but it didn't make sense to me and I just went with -2, is what he said it true? Can't my shooting glasses have cylinder correction? I'm completely clueless about how glasses/lenses work so sorry if I'm not making sense.

I spoke with the folks at Shooting Sight and followed their advice.

Why not tell us where you're from. You'll get more useful information and perhaps get a response in your language.

I assume you're talking about iron sights here, because the difference between those and "Red Dots" is huge.
