United States Anti-Doping Agency

United States Anti-Doping Agency

Dear USA Shooting Competitors and Athlete Support Personnel,

USA Shooting (USAS) is responsible for ensuring its competitors and athlete support personnel are educated and aware of the antidoping policies by which athletes must compete. These policies include the World Anti-Doping Agency’s Code (WADA; https://www.wada-ama.org/en/what-we-do/ ... oping-code) and List of Prohibited Substances and Methods (https://www.wada-ama.org/en/resources/w ... bited-list).

Competitors are defined as any athlete registered to compete in a USAS sanctioned competition. Athlete Support personnel are any coach, trainer, manager, team staff, official, medical personnel, parent or other person working with, treating or assisting an athlete participating in a USAS competition. Athletes registered for a USAS event have the potential to be tested whether a first time participant or a long standing professional athlete. Athletes should remain aware that common medical conditions requiring medication may contain prohibited substances and need a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) in order for them to be utilized by competitive athletes. Similarly, the method by which medical treatment is provided may be prohibited and require a TUE.

Dietary supplements can also contain banned substances given industry regulations do not protect the manufacturing of dietary supplements like it does food or medications. While a prohibited substance may not be listed on the ingredient label of a supplement, this does not guarantee that contamination did not occur during the manufacturing process. Athletes should look for dietary supplements tested for sport through the Banned Substances Control Group, Informed Sport and NSF Certified for Sport.

USAS encourages all athletes to educate themselves on anti-doping policies and to stay cognizant of what they are putting into their bodies. We are here to help athletes and their support personnel in knowing the rules, evaluating medications, supplements or treatments to help ensure they compete clean. At anytime, athletes and support personnel may reach out to USAS staff members for support. Assistance in evaluating medications, medical methods and dietary supplements can be emailed to the Director of High Performance at: krista.austin@usashooting.org

Thank you for your cooperation and support of USA Shooting!
