Can we improve clearance into the USA when travelling w/firearms?

Post by Mike M. »

Rant here...I'm a member of the U.S. International Muzzle-Loading Team, have been traveling overseas with firearms to competitions for the last 25 years. I've never had issues getting into any European country, unless you count the German Customs official who was a fellow BP shooter and wanted to chat.

Where I have issues is in returning to the USA. Yes, the firearms are papered with CBP (have been for years), but I get diverted for inspection every time. The CBP people are professionals...there's something amiss with the process. Does anyone have an idea of how to fix this? TIA.

No way of avoiding this. Primary inspection is like triage. It's good to go or go to secondary. FTA form, firearms and such take too long to inspect on primary.
