Aperture Sights for Anschutz 1415

Post by David Buffington »

Hello!
I was fortunate to pick up a nice used Anschutz 1415, and I'd like to install peep/aperture sights on it. Right now, it has a fold down rear sight, and a hooded front post. The post base appears to be attached to the barrel with two screws, the post itself -- which seems to be broken at the top -- appears to be threaded into the post base.
Any suggestions for peep sights?
Thanks!

Dave: I have several anschutz sporters and the anschutz target (peep) sights will fit on the sporter rail. The thing is these are not really good for a sporter. They are very big and bulky. You could have a look at a williams sight or better look for an old lyman or redfield peep sight. They made several that would be better suited to a sporter 22. For the front I have used lyman 17a's on some sporter rifles. They give you the option of interchangeable apertures or posts but the 17a is smaller and looks more at home on a sporter. A fellow named Nick Stroeble wrote a good book on old gunsights. You might look this book up and figure out what you want then watch around on the net or gunshows for one.

Do you mean the front rail?

I was wondering about that.

That sounds promising. I'll try to find one and the book also.
Thanks again!

No I mean the dovetail on the action- the rear target sights will fit there but will be bulky for typical sporter use.

As far as the front goes Anschutz has nothing that will be suitable. The lyman 17a's are still and production and can be bought new. The back sight is what you will need to search for.
A decent combination of a peep rear and a lyman 17a front makes a really nice rifle to carry. I have a walking trail on my property with swinging metal targets placed at various points. It makes a great exercise trail almost like summer biathalon. A sporter equiped this way works out very nicely.
: Thanks again!

That's exactly what I'm looking for. I'll ask Lyman about mounting. Thanks!!!
