I don't have an Instagram account so can't see these images fully but they're of a new "design study" .22 target rifle from Anschutz shown at the IWA show in Germany. Looks like they've brought the breech closer to the shooter. The bolt looks tiny - maybe like a Feinwerkbau? I managed to find a video online of it's operation but for the life of me I can't find again to link to it. The "bolt handle" is rotated forward/back to luck and unlock it.

It looks to be a very interesting design, mechanically speaking at least. The breech (not sure I can call it a bolt) appears to slide on rails like the FWB 2800, but it doesn't rotate to lock. No idea how it locks.

The concept looks interesting: very short breech, Grunig-inspired stock, barrel clamp etc.

Here's a link to videos of the breech being operated: https://m.facebook.com/watch/?v=4921586 ... ef=sharing

Try this link: https://www.instagram.com/p/Carst7WgCmu/

Once you click the link, a video opens that shows a shot that sweeps from the butt stock to the muzzle. On that video there's a little right arrow (triangle) that scrolls you onto a second video. This shows a close up of the "bolt" in operation.

The bolt appears to slide on a rail that's also a loading tray. This can be seen by pausing the first video as it sweeps by the rear receiver area. There's an extractor claw at the 12 o'clock position suggesting a 6 o'clock firing pin perhaps? The receiver has a rectangular slot and also a semi-circular slot cut in it's side so I'm guessing the bold interacts with these to lock up. (seen in second video)

The "bolt handle" has a grub screw in it. Perhaps the handle can be removed and a left handed handle can be attached to the left hand side to make it ambidextrous? (If the first video is paused at the very end, a black and a red bolt handle can be seen on the table. There's also a silver "switch" on the right hand side of the receiver, directly above the trigger which may be a safety?

The fore end of the stock has a bridge over the barrel - barrel clamp? Or is it just for rigidity?

This facebook page has some videos with demonstrations of the locking mechanism : https://www.facebook.com/ahg.anschuetz

Seems a bit weird, curious to see it in action in prone position.

I think hhe bridge over the barrel seems to be a tuner, like on the FWB 2800, as there are some positioning marks along the barrel on the stock

It is weird! That said if it's reliable, and well priced, it may sell.

The short breech should be handy for prone, although initially the locking lever may feel awkward to anyone used to a turn bolt.

I don't think the "bridge" is a tuner in the common sense, ie a weight used to manipulate barrel vibration, although yes I suspect it is like the FWB2800. I think it's a clamp fixed to the stock, so the tuning function will be by contact/change of length rather than through mass.

Well this is what Anschutz should have built years ago instead of their 54.30.

Interesting, operation of the bolt. From a movement efficiency point of view it doesn't look very efficient with having to twist the bolt ant-clockwise to unlock it before pulling it back. To me it would make much more sense to twist the bolt clockwise unlock it as it would then be one movement to unlock the bolt and open it.

Thanks Shakeyaim for posting it.

Yes, interesting. I like that the torque of opening the bolt is in the direction of recoil, and not trying to rotate the rifle in your shoulder around the bore axis. But it also looks as though fumbling a round in there for a clumsy fat fingered old man like me could be an issue. I have the same perception of the Bleiker and Grunig though, fwiw. Would like to fiddle with both, as well as the FWB, but I'm leaning towards a KK-500, it being 'conventional', based on that quite possibly baseless perception.

Looking at their 'new' sporting rifles, I was expecting to see something done with that action design for a future match rifle.

The change in position of the loading chamber is significant.

Compared to the 54.30 the chamber is much easier to reach.
