Liability insurance for gun owners

Post by gimgim »

I was wondering if anybody has experience with this.
Is it per firearm? What are the approximate costs? I couldn't find much info online
Thanks!

Your state government has not posted the details yet. First in the nation
They really don't want you as a gun owner there. Might be cheaper to move

It's cheaper to move away from the Bay Area even if you are not a gun owner :-) but my job is here for now.

I am trying to figure out whether I should get rid of the free pistols and get a nice air rifle instead.
It's a sport/hobby for me, so .22lr or air makes no difference. Self defense with the CM84/Toz is not an option anyway.

Call your insurance agent and ask them about an umbrella policy, to cover your area of concern.

Good luck getting any major insurance company to cover anything gun-related on any kind of policy they might write. Are you sure you are safe if someone steals the air rifle you changed for and robs or injures someone with it? Depends on how the law is written. Funny; you can't expect people to get an I.D. to vote but you can force them to buy insurance to exercise a constitutional right. We will see what happens in the courts.

Perhaps a massive earthquake will sink Kalifornistan, saving everyone thousands in attorney's fees.

If I read the news article correctly there is no penalty for not being insured. Did I misread?

I'm surprised the coalition of poor people hasn't objected yet...

I didn't read the story... does it require insurance on existing firearms owned, or just to purchase a new one?

Fortunately I have an Umbrella Policy that I got years ago when they did not excluded, firearms or their use, scuba diving and flying, all of which I do. If I ever were to let it lapse, I would never get it back.

What? They excluded sky diving, cage fighting, lion taming, and living anywhere in California?

Actually Sky Diving was not excluded, but I am not sure of the others. Wasn't an issue for me.

Heres a scenario for you.

A city resident finds that no commercial insurance exists and forces the city to become the insurer of last resort.
And Then sues them over affordability
