It just never ends

First it was guns, then they took away knives, then they prosecuted self-defenders. Now they want your crossbow.

When does it end?

The British Commonwealth nations are the worst of the "free" countries in regards to weapon regulations.
And there are a LOT of them.

Excluding the communist/socialist nations of course.

What absolute twaddle and ignorance is in this thread. Shame on you all. This story has nothing to do with arms control. The man was arrested because he was caught breaking into the Queen's residence while armed, and mentally ill. The US Secret Service would do exactly the same if this had occurred in the Whitehouse grounds.

Tim, how dare you introduce FACTS into a perfectly lovely (and totally misguided) narrative? There are more than a few posters here who would cheer on an intruder roaming the White House with a crossbow.

Apparently a couple of you just glossed over the article or didn’t read it at all. The call by the Home Office for more scrutiny over rules on lethal weapons was the main point of the article! I saw no reference to increased security measures to protect the Royal Family.

As long as all the effort goes into regulating firearms and other “offensive weapons” as the story referred to the crossbow, the violence will never stop. You need to keep the violent criminals away from the innocent and treat the mentally ill.

All the rest is stupidity. I also see that the anti-gun crowd here on Tagettalk has left the safety of their normal diatribe on magazine fed firearms to rail against the single shot assault crossbow. Funny!

We do. We have have and a health service thank you. Those words are equally applicable to the US, and its many mass killings.

The Home Office promising a review is a way of prevaricating without saying so. FYI firearms aren't intrinsically offensive weapons. An offensive weapon is an object, any object, carried to fight another.

No kidding! The U.S. is crawling with people who want to ban guns to protect and then they turn right around and enact “no cash bail” which releases violent criminals back on the street almost immediately.

I used the phrase Offensive Weapons because that’s what the authorities referred to the crossbow as in their articles on the incident. I have a pruning saw that would make a great Offensive Weapon but only the sweet gum tree in the yard has been assaulted with it.

Here is a fairly modest and obvious proposal:
When the US begins to approach the UK's (or Germany's, Norway's, Denmark's, Sweden's, Italy's...) per capita death by firearm statistics, we will have earned the right to criticize them. Until then, each time we point a finger at them we point three back at ourselves.

The proposal is sophomoric. Do some reading. Anders Behring Breivik. He didn't come to the U.S. to get his Mini-14. Check out his inadequate sentence for murdering 77 people in NORWAY in one day. Eligible for parole in 10 years, max out in 21 years!!!! The European countries mentioned make it difficult to own a firearm so terrorists smuggle in full-auto AK-47s to assault and kill at the editorial offices of a magazine in Paris, mow down people at Christmas markets in Germany with a truck, and machete and vehicle attacks in London, etc. Oh, but I forgot; we have trucks as well. My finger is not pointed at countries, it is pointed at the folks who think you can stop murder by regulating THINGS.

It's really tough when they can't defend themselves from the animals out there.

Sad when the Limey's get beat-down by a squirrel.

Here in the Appalachia, when my neighbor's pit bull tries to maul me (on a daily basis), there's still the final solution of .44 Mag or .454 Casull.
