Kurger targets are no longer accepted by the NRA

I understand from Champions that Kurger targets are no longer accepted by the NRA for matches. So, no more Kurger’s coming into the states. Or at least that’s what I got from Champions. Who makes the best targets and where to get them? I’m looking for B-2&3 Bullseye targets and B-11 &33 Intl pistol targets.

Personally, I find the quality of paper used in the German targets like Kruger and Edelmann to be far superior to anything being made in the USA. (Sad to say!)

I have no idea why the NRA would ban Kruger targets. But if you are looking for an equivalent high quality target to the Kruger, those targets made for Orion are top notch. I have no idea who makes them. But Champions Choice sells them.

"So few NRA matches". Well whos fault is that! Once again the NRA, proverbially speaking, shoots its self in the foot.

Could be that the current NRA target licensees did not like competing with Krugers superior products and let the NRA know it. Ditch Kruger or else. Pure speculation on my part.

My experience, as an NRA life member, is that the NRA of today will shoot itself in the foot if anything involves target disciplines and not politics.

The Kurger paper is superior for indoor targets, but fails miserably when used outdoors. The paper is too brittle for use in even moderate winds.

Again, not certain for the non-acceptance across the board by the NRA, but the outdoor breakage was an issue.

"So few NRA matches" Who's fault is that. Ultimately ours. There are people who like to shoot matches but as a match director of 20+ years and junior coach it sure can be hard to find help. Those that do, god love them are are a blessing. But this is a topic for another thread.

I've tried American and National. There not in the same league as Kurger. I do use Orin for air pistol matches along with there scoring system. Unfortunately they don't score and hence don't print B,2,3,11 and 33 targets which is what I need for upcoming indoor matches.

From personal experience, none of the NRA licensee's "paper" targets come even close to Kruger/Edelmans. I have never had the opportunity to try the "tag" targets. Of course the "tag" targets are at a premium cost.

I doubt that the "tag" targets are equal to the Kruger/Edelman but would a be a big step up from the NRA licensees "paper" targets.

Perhaps another forum member has "tag" target experience to share.

I reuse the Kruger targets that the Junior Club uses for 22lr matches for group testing ammo.

The bullet holes cut into the Kruger target material is far superior to the "Tagboard" material.

There is something in the paper emulsion that makes them, Kruger/Edelmann, work so well.

Now for my rumor...

The NRA cancelled Kruger's license due to not being Made in USA. An attempt to support more US jobs and businesses.

There is something in the paper emulsion that makes them, Kruger/Edelmann, work so well.

The Kruger/Edelman target paper uses very little recycled paper which is very surprising given that they are made in Europe. Plus when the paper is made it is highly process mostly virgin paper so that the fibers are very short with pretty much means that the paper has no "grain" like the target papers including "tag" made in the USA. The Kruger/Edelman targets also have a quality clay additive that is included in their paper making process. USA makers preform a similar process on "tag", but the clay calendaring is not the same.

I have looked at both Kruger and US paper target paper shot holes under hi mag, and the difference is startling. I used to have polaroid's of each as the microscope had a camera system for recording. Sadly I no longer have the prints.

If NRA no longer recognizes Kruger targets, and a match director wants to use Kruger targets for the match, it seems the solution is use whoever targets you desire and sanction it with an organization that actually promotes competitive shooting in 2021. There are a few out there.

We ordered Kruger ISSF targets direct from Germany a few months back. No problems. Fast delivery. It would seem to me that USA Shooting has an opportunity to make money for the organization, here. They could sell Kruger ISSF targets, and SIUS target faces, on their web-store.
