psychiatric drugs and shooting
Hi,
I was wondering whether certain psychiatric medication (of the counter or specially designed) could help one calm down, focus more or even wobble less?
And if yes, would be considered doping? Is there a doping test in shooting?

I think that if you'd compete in any ISSF organized match, or any match organized under ISSF regulations, you'd be subject to WADA/USADA regulations. other matches. I don't know.
Kind regards,

I suspect the problem would be with any "performance enhancing" substance.
Even as benign as Cannabus can be - it's still a no-no.

is there a "performance enhancing" substance for shooting?
are athletes tested?

"is there a "performance enhancing" substance for shooting?"
Got a heart problem? You're probably on verboten drugs.
"are athletes tested?"
I remember a high-level shooter friend telling me that he was annoyed by drug testers dropping by.

Beta-blockers are prohibited In-Competition only, in the following sports, and also prohibited
Out-of-Competition where indicated (*).
• Archery (WA)*
• Automobile (FIA)
• Billiards (all disciplines) (WCBS)
• Darts (WDF)
• Golf (IGF)
• Shooting (ISSF, IPC)*

Does Laphroaig count as one?
Re: psychiatric drugs and shooting
Forget about drugs and their health side effects. Improve your training. A good way to improve groups is to progressively increase training and holds.
ISSF shooting is subject to anti doping rules and national laws at all levels of competition.

Sure! A straight-jacket, thorazine, and a lengthy involuntary commitment to a mental institution sounds like the "Prescription" you need!
Or you can move into William's basement, which is basically a commune for mental defectives like yourself.
Let's recite questions from Form 4473, Firearms Transaction Record:
#21(e): Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to . . . any controlled substance?
#21(f): Have you ever been adjudicated as a mental defective OR have you ever been committed to a mental institution?
If you answered "YES" to any of the above, you're probably a Psycho & should donate your firearms to Hillary before you humiliate yourself.
Hope this helps!
Postscript: Say "Hi" to "Mom" for me!

As someone who has battled mental illness my entire adult life and who has also worked as a forensic toxicologist, do not mess around with psychiatric medication unless it is prescribed by a doctor for a specific condition. Psychiatric medicines can have terrible effects on people who don't have the conditions they're used to treat.

Yeah, a lot of the postmortem samples I worked on in the lab were people who did exactly that...atomicgale wrote: ↑Sat Sep 25, 2021 5:32 pmNah . . . just mix a bunch of your friends "Meds" in a bowl & eat 'em like M&Ms . . . then see what happens next . . . .PirateJohn wrote: ↑Sat Sep 25, 2021 5:26 pm As someone who has battled mental illness my entire adult life and who has also worked as a forensic toxicologist, do not mess around with psychiatric medication unless it is prescribed by a doctor for a specific condition. Re: psychiatric drugs and shooting
If one can't compete without cheating, one should not attempt to compete.
Re: psychiatric drugs and shooting
What if we had doping-permitted olympics? Then it would not be cheating since all participants accept in advance.
