One notes he had a prayer rug under his air pistol, which he later kneeled on to thank A**** for his huge victory.

Coincidence or divine pellet trajectories?

Sure guys, bring on the hate, why don't you? In my memory this is the first uproar over a competitor's (let alone medalist's) political / religious beliefs. Note: In Iran as in most of North Africa and the Middle East there is no hard line between the two.

And as to the appropriately deleted comment, if he knew the first thing about the subject, he'd understand that Iran is a Shi'ite nation; and suicide even for a cause is abhorrent to them. But what matter facts when the bile is running?

Just a nurse or is this the same person though by some to be the sniper from the Basij Resistance Force under the control of the IRGC who shot an killed several unarmed Iranian protesters in Tehran in 2009?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"After his winning shot in Tokyo, state television broadcast a report from Baqiyatallah Hospital in Tehran, which is run by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and in which his colleagues hailed Foroughi’s victory.

Guards chief Hossein Salami also celebrated the win, the movement’s Sepahnews website reported, calling the shooter an “exuberant Guard of the Islamic revolution.”"

Photos of the 2009 sniper and the gold medalist can be see in this article.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"United For Navid noted that it wrote “to the IOC earlier this year and warned them about the possible presence of the military and even politicians serving as athletic representatives of Iran. Officials of the IOC never took any action. Awarding an Olympic gold medal to a member of a terrorist organization is an insult to other athletes and a black mark on the IOC. United for Navid calls for an immediate investigation by the IOC, and until an investigation is completed the suspension of any medal award.”

Ellie Cohanim, the Iranian-born former US deputy special envoy to monitor and combat antisemitism at the US State Department, tweeted: “What a disgrace for the Olympics. This guy has been outed as a member of the IRGC a designated terrorist organization.” Twitter, the micro-blog platform, was ablaze with criticism of the IOC from Iranians for the praise.

The Iranian-American human rights activist Lawdan Bazargan tweeted: “Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corp is the equivalent of SS or ‘political soldiers’ of the Nazi Party of Hitler. I was arrested in June 1985 by IRGC members when I was 16 & spent 2 weeks in their jails before transfer to Evin prison. Why @Olympics allows a member of IRGC to compete?”

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If this person is a member of Iran's Revolutionary Guard, IMO, he should not have been at the Olympics given a very clear record of extrajudicial killings and the suppression of human rights documented by international human rights organizations. See, eg:

"In 2019, Iran’s judiciary dramatically increased the cost of peaceful dissent, sentencing dozens of human rights defenders to decades-long prison sentences. Repressive domestic security agencies, in particular the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ (IRGC) Intelligence Organization, continue to suppress civil society activists, such as detained environmentalists, including through reported abuse and torture in detention...."

Yeah, it doesn't look good.

Too bad, I liked the guy's style. It helps that after getting disappointed with so many people in the past few years shrugging off people comes easy tho.

Iran Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) has been named a "terrorist organization" by the Trump administration. That alone should cast doubt on the designation. What international institutions, other than the government of Israel, have also taken that step?

Frightening, the tremendous amount of knee-jerk hostility toward Iran in the United States. It's a disease of American diplomacy since 1946, defining our foreign policy by whom / what we're against. Just remember, ladies and gents: WE overthrew their only ever democratic government in 1953, and we fully backed Saddam Hussein's invasion of Iran and the ensuing bloodbath in 1980.

Time to un-bunch the panties, and take a deep breath!
