Standard /Rapid Fire Pistol - Best Pistol to Buy?

Post by nmondal »

Hi Shooters,
I am thinking to graduate to actual fire-arms, from 10M Air Pistol.
Staying in 10 M of course.
What you guys think is the best Standard/Rapid Fire Pistol?
Should we even approach the problem in that all in one direction?

As far as I am concerned there are Morini, Pardini, Walther SSP/GSP ( ? ), FWB,...
And seems like everyone uses Pardini.
What you guys are using ?
10 M Air pistol : Walther LP 500 Basic | Earlier Hammerli AP 20 Pro.

I used a Ruger 22/45 Target model with a upgraded trigger for years before I saved up enough to buy my Pardini SP. I bought the Pardini because it was cooler looking and it was time for me to buy my "forever" pistol, both guns can out shoot me.

The top shooter in our BE league last year used a stock Ruger.

Everyone I know that has shot a MatchGun MG2 loves it (if it works). The catch is that the factory is still getting the bugs out of their production process. I spent most of the pandemic getting mine working super reliably. They've fixed quite a few issues over time, but I don't know how well they are doing these days. I'm getting a new one in a few weeks, and will have a better idea then.

In terms of "forgiving" pistols, I would rank the MG2 as the best I've ever owned, the Benelli MP90S second, and the Pardini SP 3rd. After that, there's the High Standard Victor, followed by the S&W Model 41. The MG2 just seems to want to shoot 10s. If I call a "nine", the Benelli will deliver a 9. The Pardini will often end up with an 8, and the MatchGun will frequently give me a 10. I spend years trying to duplicate the ergonomics (grip, weight, balance, trigger, etc.) of my Benelli with my Pardini, but I could never get it to shoot as well.

My wife shoots an MG2 now, and her scores jumped noticeably over what she shot with her Pardini SP. She's made the Greater Boston Pistol League All Star Team every year for at least 15 years, so she knows what she's doing. I'd tried to describe to her what a "forgiving" pistol is like, and now she understands.

Fascinating! Seems like Benelli has an authorised dealer in Hyderabad!
If I knew it earlier, I probably would have bought Kite!
Is Kite any good at 10 M Air Pistol shooting?

My first 22 pistol was a Ruger MK 3
I really did not like it
Could not use standard velocity ammo
Had to do a trigger job but still not that good
The grip sucks, just could not shoot that thing
I then "pulled the trigger" on a Benelli mp90
Wow what a pistol!very nice! Good trigger,good grip,well balanced
I then got to try the Pardini so and really liked it,but I can't comment too much on it because I didn't get a chance to shoot it a lot
Then I met someone at the range and he let me tried his Walther SSP and that was it
The Walther has been my new pistol for about 3 years now and still love it!

I have adviced you repeatedly: Buy several brands/models, try them out by yourself, then trade off the ones you do not prefer.

The Kite is a perfectly good PCP air pistol. The college team I help coach has 16 of them, and they shoot fine. We have Steyrs, Morinis & Hammerlis as well, and the Kites suit some shooters better than the others & vice versa.

However, it's unclear what the long term plans are for Benelli's line of pistols. They make most of their money on shotguns, and the pistol line is a bit of an afterthought. After the US importer passed away suddenly, support in the USA has all but vanished. I've heard nothing concrete about anyone restarting the import process.

Man, you got to understand the India demography. Even if I try to get a firearm or any arm for that matter, the "law of the land" is incredibly prohibitive"
In fact it is so much prohibitive, that I can not even buy a "sport" firearm, for sporting use, unless I qualify for national championship, and is a national level shooter.
But point taken, again.
