Removable Scope Options For 54:30

Post by jbzeus »

Hi All,

Need some advice. I shoot club matches and we use scopes.

For my 1913 I had a Unertl that used short bases and I could remove the scope easily for transportation. Zeroed perfectly when remounted everytime. The unertl had a screw that tightened onto the base in a small cutout to index it and keep it from slipping.

I have a 54:30 now and would like to scope it and be able to remove and reinstall the scope fairly easily. I have one of the 9" scope rails but sliding a scope on and off that long rail might be a chore.

Thought about these https://www.jnpgunsprings.com/ANSCHUTZ- ... -p72157680 but not sure how they would hold up to a scope mounted and remounted continuously.

The lighter weight the better as I have some back problems and am trying to keep the weight down as much as possible.

Options?
Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,

I don't have a 54.30, but I have a 1907 and have used BKL aluminum rings with the Anschutz 9" sight rail:

I am still using BKL rings, but with this sight rail:

BKL rings are light and slide on and off just fine. I have never had a problem with them. They come back pretty closely to sighted in too. Just keep the rings torqued to the scope tube and loosen the cap screws at the base of each ring and slide the scope on and off. It is the simplest solution that I have found. BKL-257 or BKL-257H depending on what height you want.

Good luck,

Thanks for the info Brian. I didn't think the pinch type would go on and off without binding. Good to know!

Use the extension rail to remove the scope from the rifle and leave the scope rings mounted on the rail. Should keep the zero just fine.

I make a series of rings for 11mm dovetails in heights between .5" and 1.5". No rails yet though yet though. I also make some thumb screws that can be used with the anschutz rails.
