Hello all, i would like to know what the group thinks of the Ans 64 action. I own a few of the 54s, but am thinking about building a field gun (.17 HMR) off of either a 54 or 64 action.
Tell me what you think of the 64 action, and if the 54 actions are really that much better.
i would end up purchasing the rifle, then scraping the barrel, stock, sights, and just using the action and trigger to start with. if the 54 trigger and action is worth the extra $400, then i think the 54 is the way to go. If the 65 trigger and action is ok, i would like to know.

I have both actions. The trigger weight of the 64 action is, of course, higher than that of the 54 and the 54 action is, in some sense, better, but how much is it worth to you for your purposes? If you have reasonable trigger control, the 64 is probably good enough. If you want absolutely every last 10 and money isn't an issue, go for the 54.
