CM 162 EI Cylinders

The black plastic ends of the cylinders have grooves. Are these to assist in screwing the cylinder onto the gun or fill tank? This is where the pressure gauge (I use this term loosely) lives.

I suppose it is for a better grip for loosening or tightening the cylinder, I do not think it can serve any other purpose.

I thought that it might be for disassembly of the air pressure guage for repair. Heaven knows it needs it!
