I had my match 54 6 digit serial number confirmed by the factory as a 78 model (1607/13)- it is quite capable of shooting 10x with a good user, I have shot 100.7 at 20metres. The serial number has an X with it so there isn't a year designation on the barrel?

The 16 series/X barrels still have a date on the barrel. I have a 1979 1613 in my cabinet, and it has a proof date. The proof marks are governed by federal/state law, not Anschutz's manufacturing changes. However German law changed during 16 series production, and in' 78 the proof date changed from numbers to a letter code. Look closely at the proof marks. There should be two letters. 78 would be Hi. 79 would be HK.

If you want to tell whether you have a 1607 or 1611/1613 barrel, that's easy. A 1607 barrel is 66cm from chamber to muzzle. A 1611/1613 barrel is 69cm from chamber to muzzle.

re old Anschutz rifles: - an old thread, but perhaps this will answer the question of whether an old Anschutz
rifle can 'cut the mustard' as they say...

Anschutz (1410) 54 Super Match dated 1965 - wing safety
(Edit: as far as I know, it was the (very?) early 1960's barrels that were supposed to be better than later ones!?
something to do with quality of the steel used)
Headspace adjusted fairly tight!
Kenyon trigger at about 5oz - (Anschutz 5039 'set trigger' at something like 1 - 2oz gives a similar result)
BR50 stock (clone), bedded
action bolts set at 7Nm (according to old Karl Kenyon's instructions on his barrelled actions! (incl. Anschutz) - seems to work!)
original barrel! (must have had 250k rounds through it??)
Caldwell Rock Junior rest (adapted - see my earlier report on that)
NO rear rest! according to UK rules! - rest on hand.
SK .22 Flatnose Match ammo (which I use for practice targets)
(with Lapua CenterX I would have expected that '9' to be in the 10!)

not too bad! for a 73year old...
and for a 54year old rifle, for that matter! hehe!

Just one question: why would 7Nm be advisable on what is, I take it, a wooden stock? I have not seen anything beyond 6 Nm recommended or practised even for aluminium stocks.

No idea, really - just trying things out with my new Kenyon trigger!
Somewhere on this here interweb is a pic of a handwritten note by Karl Kenyon
advising his customer to tighten action bolts to about 60 inch/lbs - that is about 6.8 Nm
So I tried that (yes, laminated wood stock) and the groups seem to be smaller than on 5 or 6 NM

For wood stock try 4,5-5 Nm
Y use this from 60's with Anschütz.

I have a 1413, single extractor bolt. It was rebarelled in stainless.
It will clean prone kneeling and sitting if I do my job.
My standing is near hopeless after I lost half a foot, but thats not the gun.

I cannot imagine the newer metal stocked guns being so much better, I know they are, but wow
it's the diminishing return game.....
