Baikal IZH 46M – Delayed trigger action

Post by lamap »

Dear IZH shooters
I need your help concerning the IZH trigger release.
I have a Baikal IZH 46M, bought a few months ago. I could return it but supplier is far, and sending a gun by mail is a pain, even if is an air pistol.
After some time, I started having the following problem:
After pressing the trigger, the release of the air is sometimes delayed a few seconds.
Without grips, looking at trigger point window, the trigger action acts normally, the trigger lever #18, releases the trigger sear #15. Sometimes the valve stem is not activated.
Without pressure, when dry firing, this is more common.
With air pressure its less frequent, but I had some failures namely during matches. When I open the slide latch, the air is released (and the rubber seals fly away..).
The problem seems to be caused by lack of pressure in a spring.
Any one experienced this problem?
Thank you
Luis

Or, dried grease making things sticky.

If it is indeed a FEW seconds, then I am inclined to think dried grease.
A weak spring should not have a time factor.

You could try using some pellgun oil to lubricate the seals and valve stem.

There are really two sears in the IZH, the trigger sear, and the valve sear. I believe that once the the valve sear gets released, the valve plunger pushes the sear down out of the way as the valve spring & air pressure push the valve to the rear. If the valve plunger is moving that slowly, it's gotten seriously gunked up with something.

Here's a post I did a while back that has some drawings of the inner workings that might help:

If you have to take it apart to clean and lubricate it, here's a post with some instructions I also wrote up:

Hi,
not yet, I asked a more mechanically skilled friend to "open" the pistol to reach the valve and spring, to clean it and rebuild.
I am still waiting.
Good luck

Good evening,
My mechanically skilled friend sprayed a few drops of oil and during one training the problem was unnoticed.
After this, back to square one.
So having observed the drawings kindly offered by Gwhite, and following the sequence as described, I have take apart the IZH, to reach the valve plunger. I tryed to clean it the best I could, and gave a little stretch on the valve spring to have more tension.
So far this seams to have solved the problem.
Thank you all and specially to Gwhite for the great drawings and information.
Best regrads

Just to close,

Finally after opening the IZH 2 times to clean and lube, stretching the valve spring etc, without sucess, i ordered and replaced the valve and valve spring. With this the pistol is back to normal operation.

Thank you all,
Luis
