What postal matches exactly? Where can I enter one? How do they insure that someone doesn't cheat? Any info will be helpful!!!

Re: -=[Postal Matches]=-
Hi Life.
Postal matches tend to fall into two categories: total honour system and hybrid honour system. (These are my own terms: feel free to smirk at how poor they are.)
A total honour system, like most internet postal matches, ask that you shoot the event under match conditions and send in the score only to the postal match coordinator. (This is how mine is run.)
A hybrid honour system, like the Shooting Federation of Canada postal match, will send stickers to you to attach to the back of your targets, which you then shoot. A verifier (someone else at the range who saw you shoot these targets) will sign the sticker once you are finished. At this point, you can send in your scores to teh match director, who may or may not request to see these targets. (Stickers and verification may vary from system to system, but the principles remain the same.)
In both cases though, the system can be cheated. You could enter a world class score and win the postal match, having never fired a shot. You could send in 50m prone targets, that you shot at 15 feet. In either case, nobody really wins. Postals can't ensure that you (and/or some friends) can't cheat.
There's a link below to my postal match. It gives the basic rules, plus links out to previous matches and an entry form for the current monthly match. Feel free to participate: it's free!
Good shooting.

Re: -=[Postal Matches]=- question of etiquitte
I have a question since we are on the subject... and the guys who run the two postals I know of are here...
I am thinking of internet postals where we email in the score, not the sticker or provided-target kind.
I presume I should submit a specific score shot on the course of fire during the open time period (month or whatever) to ONE postal.
I *think* it would be appropriate and acceptable to shoot the course of fire a SECOND time during the open time period. And submit the second score to the second postal.
To carry it even further, one should assert in one's mind (as recommended on Patrick's website), prior to shooting, that "today I am shooting Postal "A"" and on another occasion "today I am shooting postal "B""
Is THAT what every expects?, or is it expected that one will choose ONE postal this month and submit only to that one?, or ONE postal to be a regular competitor in and ignore the other?, OR are we expected to shoot the course of fire ONCE and submit THAT score to every postal on the web?
Another question: IF you run a local club match, can you send in the scores of every participant to your favorite postal? Presumably you would let the local participants know in advance and maybe even opt-out, but does that go beyond the spirit of the postal that takes individual entries?
Any thoughts?

Re: -=[Postal Matches]=- question of etiquitte
The High Noon postal is open for any shooter who wants to submit his score. I do not take care if one submits a score also to another postal. It is up to a shooter. Moreover, for the High Noon postal one is allowed to submit (to upgrade in fact) his score as many times per month as he wishes. One may need the postal as a way to mimick match conditions, smomebody else needs this to force himself for practicing more regulary, etc. Anyway, any postal cannot be considered as a "real" match - that's clear. From other point of view during last 3 years I has been not sure about a result submitted only few times. But even if somebody cheats - what does it change for a real shooters? Nothing. One needs to progress - that's all. You know - real shooters cheat also! "Scratching" a hole in AR targets (particularly efficient when DISAG or similar machine is used) allows one to "add" 3-4 point. I saw them in Poland as well as in France, Czech (the only 3 countries I have observed shooters in fact:-)- so, that's international habit... I would say - I am more convinced that the postal score is shoot according to a honor rule than a real one :-)))
Anyway, have good shooting, always follow a Rule No 1, and I am looking forward to your score as many times per month as you wish!
