Prices and what you get

Post by Bill177 »

I have come to the point of upgrading from Co2 to PCP. Looking long distance at the air pistols available is difficult at best. However, a few questions do quickly come to mind.
How do the Pardini K2S, Gehmann F4000, Matchgun MG1 and SAM K12 (all under $900 each) compare to the Steyr/Anschutz PL series or Morini 162 series (all over $1100)? Is there a solid reason for spending the extra dollars? Do more accessories and a better case come with the more expensive guns?
I have seen the LPs and 162s - but, none of the less expensive guns.
Is this a case of "you get what you pay for?"

They are all probably capable of one hole accuracy ... not sure about their reliability ... but in the LONG run ... perhaps what is important, is shooting what the other elite shooters are using. Psychologically, at the highest level ... you don't want to think that someone might be having an advantage over you becuase of their equipment.
One thing that the top pistols tend to have ... is very good triggers that have absolutely repeatable feel and action. That is one reason why the Morini 162EI is so popular even though it isn't as high tech as the Steyr LP10 or LP300.
If you are going to be using a pistol for at least three years ... what's $300 difference. In the end you will probably lose close to $300 when you sell your $900 pistol in order to buy the $1,000+ pistol ... :-)
